Lake James: Carolina Lake Living at it's Best!

Lakes James lies at the base of the mighty Linville Gorge on Lakes James, a sprawling 6,812-acre reservoir with more than 150 miles of shoreline. This impressive waterway beckons those with an appetite for outdoor recreation. Go swimming, enjoy a quiet picnic along the lakeshore or take a hike on the awe-inspiring Fonta Flora Trail.

Boat, water ski or fish in the lake’s cool mountain waters or take a walk on the wild side and enjoy the beautiful forest wildflowers and abundant wildlife along park trails. Of course, you just may find that your favorite thing to do at Lake James is simply relaxing.

Fun Facts About Lake James

In its June 2012 issue, Charlotte Magazine touted Lake James as one of the best the South has to offer. “When locals talk about Lake James, they first mention the water, usually using the same two words: crystal clear. Located at the base of the Linville Gorge, North Carolina’s ‘Grand Canyon,’ Lake James is filled with the kind of pure mountain H2O you though you could only find in the bottled-beverage section of your grocery store. After you marvel at the water, drink in the scenery – Linville Falls, Wiseman’s View, Pisgah Nation Forest – in short, some of the most spectacular landscape in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.”
